Surveillance of Infants Born with a Positive Toxicity
for Controlled Substances


The Surveillance of Infants Born with a Positive Toxicity for Controlled Substances is a quarterly report produced from the data reported to the Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes Reporting System. Each report includes the following tables: Table 1- Frequency of infants born with a positive toxicity for controlled substances (by type of substance); Table 2- Frequency of infants born with a positive toxicity for controlled substances (by sex, race, ethnicity, location, and birth weight); and Table 3- Frequency of infants born with a positive toxicity for cocaine (by sex, race, ethnicity, location, and birth weight).

Beginning with the 1st quarter 1998, Tables 4 through 7 have been revised and renumbered to include positive toxicity frequencies for both controlled substances and cocaine by Illinois counties and for Cook county by ZIP code.
