Epidemiology and Health Systems Development

This section of the Epidemiology and Health Systems Development Web site contains reports concerning occupational injuries, illnesses and deaths. Information for these reports was obtained through the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries and the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses.

The Department’s Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, which began collecting data for calendar year 1992, is part of a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) effort to provide a complete count of fatal work injuries in all 50 states. In 1998, the Department began participating in BLS’s Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, which provides data on all non-fatal workplace injuries and illnesses in Illinois.
