IL 62761-001 The basis of public health strategies is understanding the problem -- where it is located, how it is distributed by age and demographic factors, and what risk factors can form the basis for public health intervention. In order to create a state health policy that assures effective, accessible and affordable health services, the Office of Policy, Planning and Statistics collects and evaluates information on the changing health status, health needs and disease occurrence of Illinois residents. This information is used to conduct epidemiologic studies, health needs assessments, prevention and regulatory programs, and to identify future needs for hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities, services and personnel.
