Kenneth Smithmier is the President and CEO of Decatur Memorial Hospital. He came to Decatur Memorial Hospital in 1993 as Executive Vice President and has held the President and CEO position since 1995. Mr. Smithmier held a variety of positions in urban and rural hospitals in Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri, including six years as Vice President at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis before coming to Decatur.

Mr. Smithmier is a St. Louis native, with his bachelor’s of medical science from St. Louis University and a master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota. Mr. Smithmier sits on the Board of Directors for Novation and Hickory Point Bank & Trust, and is the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Economic Development Corporation of Decatur and Macon County. He is also a former Chairman of the Illinois Hospital Association and has served on a variety of civic committees.

Mr. Smithmier and his wife Terri have three children, Sarah, Kenny and Michael.
