Obesity Prevention Initiative Act

The Obesity Prevention Initiative Act (PA96-0155) required the Illinois Department of Public Health to hold three public hearings (schedule listed below) to gather testimony on the social and human costs of obesity and to highlight existing state and community level initiatives; identify existing plans and opportunities for action; inform policy makers and the public about effective solutions to the problem; and engage stakeholders to promote action to reduce obesity, improve nutrition and increase physical activity.

A Report to the Illinois General Assembly

Community-based organizations, local health departments, health care providers, health issue groups, physical activity professionals, nutritionists, educators, PTAs, chambers of commerce, parents, employers, county and municipal planners, and other interested parties were invited to attend and testify at the hearings.
