JACKSONVILLE NURSING HOME FINED

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Public Health has fined Prairie Village Health Care Center $10,000 (Statement of Violations) for failure to use proper safety equipment to move a resident. The 126-bed skilled and intermediate care facility is located at 1024 W. Walnut in Jacksonville.

As part of an incident investigation, Department surveyors found the facility did not properly assist a 90-year-old resident into her wheelchair.

While moving the resident, staff did not use a gait belt and ensure her wheelchair was properly locked. As a result, the wheelchair moved and while staff attempted to keep the resident from falling, her arm was broken.

The Department ordered a plan of correction that included a review of facility policies and procedures related to the safety of residents, transfer of residents and use of gait belts.

Prairie Village Health Care Center has requested a hearing on the Department's action. A hearing date has not been scheduled.
