STOCKTON NURSING HOME FINED

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Public Health has fined Rachuy House $10,000 (Statement of Violations) for failure to provide proper nursing care to prevent a resident death. The 15-bed intermediate care facility for the developmentally disabled is located at 605 N. Main St. in Stockton.

Department investigators learned a 23-year-old resident with a history of seizures was found in the bathtub with his face submerged in two inches of water. He was taken to a local hospital emergency department where he was pronounced dead.

During the resident’s four months at the facility, he had 85 seizures and was taking five different medications to help control the severity of the seizures. There was no individual care plan in place for the resident and the facility did not have a policy for supervising its residents diagnosed with seizure disorders while bathing.

The Department ordered a plan of correction that included reviewing facility policies and procedures and taking all necessary measures to ensure its residents are protected from neglectful situations.

Rachuy House has requested a hearing on the Department’s action. A hearing date has not been scheduled.
