BRIGHTON NURSING HOME FINED $5,000

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Public Health has fined Robings Manor Nursing Home $5,000
(Statement of Violation) for failing to properly supervise a resident who wandered unnoticed from the facility. The 68-bed intermediate care facility is located at 502 N. Main in Brighton.

Department investigators learned that an 88-year-old resident with a history of elopement was found by a former Robings Manor employee walking alongside U.S. 67 about three-fourths of a mile from the facility. The resident was returned unharmed 25 minutes after he had been reported missing.

Staff responded to a door alarm the evening the man eloped, but just looked out and by the door and did not fully search the grounds. A headcount of residents was underway when the resident was brought back to the facility.

Robings Manor has requested a hearing on the Department's action. No hearing date has been scheduled.
