Landshire Nike Sandwiches Recalled

Possible Listeria contamination

CHICAGO, Ill. – Landshire, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri is voluntarily recalling its Nike All-American and Nike Super Poor Boy sandwiches because the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) discovered the problem after two samples from the company’s production plant in Caseyville, IL. tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

The samples were collected from the Caseyville plant on October 21, 2011. A sample of the Nike All-American sandwich and a floor drain adjacent to the sandwich’s production line both tested positive for Listeria. The sandwiches – pre-packaged and individually wrapped salami, bologna, ham and mild Swiss cheese on a sesame seed sub roll – were manufactured between August 25 and October 6, 2011. To date, neither IDPH nor Landshire have received reports of any confirmed illnesses linked to these products.

The symptoms of Listeria infection vary by individual but can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, pregnant women, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, severe headaches and stiffness, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In pregnant women, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages or stillbirths.

The following products are subject to the recall:

  • Landshire Nike All-American
  • Landshire Nike Super Poor Boy

Production lot codes affected by the recall range from 11 237 6 through 11 285 6 and can be found on the side or back of the individual packaged sandwich.

The products were sold at various convenience stores, wholesale food distributors and grocery stores throughout Illinois. Consumers who have purchased the sandwiches may return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers with questions should contact Landshire at 314-925-4009.
