JOLIET NURSING HOME FINED

SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Department of Public Health has fined Trinity Living Center #2, a 16-bed intermediate care facility for the developmentally disabled located at 3302 Horseshoe Lane in Joliet, $10,000 for failure to properly supervise a resident.

A Department investigation found a 33-year-old resident with a history of stealing food and choking behavior died due to acute food aspiration. The man was found lying on the floor in the facility's food pantry, which had been left unlocked and unattended.

Trinity Living Center administration was ordered to train staff to meet resident health needs and problems and to implement measures to limit resident access to potentially dangerous areas where food and cleaning supplies are stored.

The facility has requested a hearing on the Department's action. No hearing date has been set.
