METROPOLIS NURSING HOME FINED
SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Department of Public Health has fined Metropolis Good Samaritan Home, an 85-bed skilled care facility located at 2299 Metropolis St. in Metropolis, $10,000 for failure to notify a physician of a significant change in a resident's condition.
Responding to a January complaint, Department surveyors found a 94-year-old resident's weight had dropped nearly 20 percent in the one and one-half months he had been in the facility, and he had bed sores. The resident's physician was not notified of his ongoing weight loss.
Metropolis Good Samaritan Home was ordered to ensure a resident's physician is notified of any significant change in condition and to provide each resident with adequate and properly supervised care. The facility also was ordered to evaluate each resident's nutritional status to determine if and when nutritional needs are being met.
The facility has requested a hearing on the Department's action. No hearing date has been set.
