WOODSTOCK NURSING HOME FINED
FOR IMPROPER CARE OF A RESIDENT

SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Department of Public Health has fined Woodstock Residence $10,000 for failing to provide proper care to an 88-year-old resident who fell and broke her leg. The 115-bed skilled care facility is located at 309 McHenry Ave., Woodstock.

Responding to a complaint, Department surveyors learned the woman fell from a bed when a staff member assisting her was distracted by another employee. The resident complained of severe leg pain immediately after the fall, but she was not referred for medical treatment or X- rays until two days later.

After an X-ray revealed her leg was fractured, the woman was not taken to a hospital for treatment until a day later.

As part of a mandatory plan of correction, the Department ordered Woodstock Residence to keep physicians informed of changes in a resident's condition and to properly monitor residents to determine the need for medical evaluation and treatment.

Woodstock Residence has requested a hearing on the Department's action. No hearing date has been scheduled.
