SPRINGFIELD, IL - New asbestos abatement regulations, which went into effect March 12, will be the subject of a series of public meetings held at various sites around the state. The new rules govern asbestos removal procedures in commercial and public buildings. Previously, the regulations applied only to public and private schools.

Each meeting will feature a general presentation on the new regulations by Illinois Department of Public Health staff, followed by a question-and-answer period. The meetings are for persons who own or maintain commercial and public buildings, school officials, asbestos consultants and contractors, and the general public. Interested persons may submit written questions prior to the meetings to the Department's Asbestos Program, 525 W. Jefferson St., Springfield, IL 62761.

All meetings will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dates and locations are as follows:
