BUILDING COMMISSION MEETING SET FOR PEORIA
SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Building Commission (IBC) will hold its monthly meeting beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 19) at the State Regional Office Building, 5415 N. University St., Peoria.
The 11-member commission is scheduled to discuss appointments to nine standing subcommittees that will be assigned the duty of reviewing the various aspects of the state building codes. More than 180 individuals have expressed an interest in serving on the subcommittees -- accessibility, building envelope, building and fire protection, building services, evaluation and development, health care facilities, planning, school facilities and structural systems.
The IBC, which was created by the General Assembly in 1997 and became a part of the Illinois Department of Public Health in 1998, was the result of a three-year effort to address issues related to building regulations in Illinois. The commission is charged with advising the legislature and public regarding construction codes and regulations.
Through its activities, the IBC strives to bring a more consistent and understandable regulatory environment to the state's construction industry. One of its first projects is the establishment of an electronic code system in which the public and those in the industry can use to access state building regulations and the agencies that administer them.
