Legislation

In 2008, Public Act 95-900 was signed by the Gov. Rod Blagojevich to create the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Task Force. The charge to the task force is to, at a minimum, make recommendations on reforming the delivery system for chronic disease prevention and health promotion, ensuring adequate funding for infrastructure and delivery of programs, addressing health disparities, and on the role of health promotion and chronic disease prevention in support of state spending on health care. As part of its duties, the task force will seek input from interested parties at three public hearings, which will be held in November 2010 in Chicago (November 15), Springfield (November 22) and Mt. Vernon (November 30).

In 2010, Public Act 96-1073 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn to add an additional member to the task force, the state’s Public Health Advocate, Dr. Quentin Young, and change the deadline for making recommendations to the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health.
