Applications must be received within 120 calendar days of the July 15, 2011 publication of the grant notice.

The program allows qualifying hospitals to apply for grants to fund projects to improve or renovate a hospital’s physical plant, or to improve, replace or acquire equipment or technology. Projects can include activities to satisfy building code, safety standards, or life safety code; maintain, improve, renovate, expand, or construct buildings or structures; maintain, establish, or improve health information technology; or maintain or improve safety, quality of care, or access to care.

The grant award is designed to fund prostate cancer research proposals with a strong emphasis on clinical/translational research. Grant awards will support patient-oriented research on prostate cancer. For the purpose of this award, clinical research is defined as research directly involving humans, and includes epidemiologic and health services research as well as studies of normal physiology and mechanisms of disease. The Prostate Cancer Research Checkoff Fund is available to support institutional research grants to public/private research centers or university-affiliated hospitals, in the state of Illinois, for the purposes of clinical/translational prostate cancer research.

The grant awards are designed to support patient-oriented research in diabetes. For the purpose of this award, clinical research is defined as research directly involving humans, and includes educational, psychosocial, behavioral, epidemiologic, and health services research, as well as studies of normal physiology and mechanisms of disease.   The Diabetes Research Checkoff Fund will support institutional research grants to public/private research centers or university-affiliated hospitals in the state of Illinois, for the purposes of clinical/translational diabetes research.  At least 50 percent of the grants shall be to entities that conduct juvenile diabetes research.

Alzheimer's Disease Research Fund

The Alzheimer’s Disease Research Fund is used to investigate the epidemiology, etiology, pathology, diagnosis, care, treatment, evaluation, cure, social and economic impacts, or other important fields of study pertaining to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Grants are available only to Illinois researchers.

Oral Health Needs Assessment and Planning

The Oral Health Needs Assessment and Planning Program assists communities to determine oral health status and plan comprehensive oral health programs designed to meet community needs. The Division of Oral Health will provide your agency with training, technical assistance and copies of the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD) “Seven-Step Model” and the Division of Oral Health Supplemental Guidance. These tools facilitate a systematic data collection and analysis process that translates into an action plan. The process is completed with development of appropriate community intervention strategies and implementation of the action plan.

The Quality of Life Endowment Fund was created as a special fund in the Illinois State Treasury. The net revenue from the Quality of Life special instant scratch-off game is deposited into the Fund for appropriation by the Illinois General Assembly solely to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) for the purpose of HIV/AIDS-prevention education and services for people living with HIV/AIDS by making grants to public or private entities in Illinois that serve the highest at-risk categories for contracting HIV or developing AIDS.

The Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of Preparedness and Response, Division of Disaster Planning and Readiness, is making available approximately $5 million in unspent CDC Public Health Emergency Response (PHER) grant funding to Illinois local health departments.  The purpose of the funding is to continue previously approved PHER-funded activities, or conduct new activities that address or retest identified gaps in local health department pandemic flu response.

Penny Severns Breast, Cervical and Ovarian Cancer Research Fund

The Penny Severns Breast, Cervical and Ovarian Cancer Research Fund is a special fund within the state treasury that is used for breast, cervical and ovarian cancer research grants. Revenue sources include general revenue funds, income tax contributions and gifts, as well as grants and awards from private foundations, nonprofit organizations and other governmental entities or persons. Grants support research in areas related to breast, cervical and ovarian cancer prevention, etiology, pathogenesis, early detection, treatment and behavioral sciences. Research also may include clinical trials. Although a majority of the applications submitted are bio-medical in nature, researchers in the fields of behavioral and social sciences also are encouraged to apply.

Carolyn Adams Ticket for the Cure Community Grants

On July 6, 2005, PA 92-0120 was signed into law, creating the Illinois Carolyn Adams Ticket for the Cure Lottery instant ticket. Net revenue from the sale of this ticket will go to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Office of Women’s Health, which will award grants to public and private entities in Illinois for the purpose of funding breast cancer research, and supportive services for breast cancer survivors and those impacted by breast cancer and breast cancer education. (This application is for community grants related to education and supportive services to breast cancer survivors and those impacted by breast cancer.)
